Kathryn and David’s Washington DC Wedding at St. Matthews Cathedral was amazing! This was the last wedding we shot before COVID19 lockdowns and shutdowns, hence it feels extra special to share this post. We miss shooting so much! Consequently, we can’t believe that it might be August before our next wedding! Nonetheless, safety and good health is most important and we extend our deepest sympathies to couples that had to postpone their weddings.
Back to these two right here though!
Our day started at the Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House located near Dupont Circle. Here we spent most of the morning with Kathryn and her girls photographing her details, and the getting ready process. Right from the start, we got the feeling of being totally welcomed into their circle of friends and family. The quarters were tight and above all, full of love and excitement as we neared closer and closer to wedding time! Katherine wasn’t a bit nervous! She was just overcome with joy and it truly showed.
As Alie wrapped up with the ladies photos, Richie accompanied the gentlemen to the ceremony site. In contrast to the light-hearted and playful spirits of the groomsmen, David seemed calm and focused on the day that lay ahead.
The Ceremony:
The amazing church, St Matthews Cathedral (or more formally known as the Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle), is gorgeous. Most noteworthy, the cathedral is designed in Renaissance Revival architecture and has a rich history. First of all, it’s the seat of the Archbishop of Washington. Futhermore, the cathedral has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
Kathryn and David had a full Catholic mass delivered by the Rev. Msgr. W. Ronald Jameson. It was a beautiful service, full of smiles.
After the ceremony we hopped in our car with us were the bride and groom. Then headed to the National Mall. We always love to include iconic locations into our shot list. So, we feel particularly blessed to have clients that think along the same lines! Washington DC is very special to the couple. Just like when we photographed their Dupont Circle engagement session, Katie and David wanted a very memorable spot. After all, what screams the nation’s capital more than the white marble architecture that is the Lincoln Memorial?! And how can anyone resist the simple beauty of the steps at the Lincoln Memorial? So even if we had to dodge a lot of tourists, it was so worth it!
Afterwards, we separated from the wedding party and drove to the National Gallery of Art. We stopped for a quick 10 minute session for some bride and groom only portraits. Best decision ever! These photos are insanely amazing! (Can you sense our excitement?)
The Reception:
Location number 3 was the Ukrainian Banquet Hall located in Northeast Washington DC. Some of the reception highlights consisted of touching toasts, a duet sung by the bride’s siblings, and inclusion of David’s Jewish heritage with a traditional dance of the Hora.
We have to tell you… Kathryn and David made it easy for us. These two are such a lovely couple and we couldn’t ask for better clients. Besides being gorgeous for photographs, these two are both super courteous, humble, and down to earth making our job as photographers a real pleasure.
Kathryn and David’s vision for their wedding was clear. They wanted to combine their traditional Catholic wedding ceremony with a more contemporary National Mall portrait session, and finish the evening off with a family friendly affair at the Ukraian Banquet Hall for their reception. We think they pulled everything off flawlessly and we are so fortunate to have amazing clients like Kathryn and David. Cheers to wedded bliss!
