What a way to kick off our season! Dana and Mark’s Washington DC Elopement was intimate and sweet. In fact, everything about it was fabulous – it had almost every aspect of a full wedding condensed in a couple of hours. The couple, their SUPER nice family and friends, the wonderfully decorated chapel, and the spring blossoms, couldn’t have been more charming. Despite a weather phenomena that limited our time together – we got some gorgeous shot we want you to see!
When we booked with the bride and she told us she was going to be married at Congressional Cemetery – we didn’t know what to expect! During the initial consultations, we really hit it off with our bride, Dana. We just loved her easy going personality and we thought her vision was so fun! It was going to be the first official elopement of the year and we knew it was going to be unique. We’ve never photographed a wedding at the Historic Congressional Cemetery in the Southeast neighborhood of DC, and well, we were excited.
The cemetery itself has a rich history for our nation; and adjacent neighborhood dog park grounds were lined with flowering pear and cherry trees. In the very center of the cemetery is a beautiful stone chapel, ornate with stained-glass and hand-worked wood. For Dana and Mark’s wedding the couple’s family decorated the chapel with gusto, giving it a unique personalized touch for the couple’s special day.
If the saying “Rain on a wedding day means good luck” is true, then Dana and Mark should have enough fortune for years to come! We did have about forty-five minutes of torrential downpour right in the middle of the family photos (if you look closely, you can see the sky changing!). As soon as it stopped, we were able to head under the pink trees for some additional intimate portraits of the new bride and groom, which made it all worth-it!
