Liza and Ed’s Southern Maryland wedding at Mary’s Hope on Church Cove was just what most couples’ dreams are made of. From a stunning celebration down to every last detail. The weather was gorgeous, and the party was an absolute blast!
Liza and Ed contacted us mid-pandemic when their original wedding plans of getting married in California had to be cancelled. Not only were they faced with downsizing but they had the obstacle of changing location and finding all new vendors. In a matter of just two months, their planning went up and down and left and right. It evolved and changed drastically. Seriously, Liza is a rockstar for how much work she had to do in so little time! As more state restrictions started to lift, their day began to grow again. Hence as did their venue. At the end of it all, they landed on the lovely property at St. Mary’s Hope on Church Cove with the absolute perfect wedding day.
Mary’s Hope on Church Cove is a picturesque Southern Maryland farmland stretching to a peninsula surrounded by the water of a quiet cove off the St. Mary’s River. The lovely mansion embodies all the charm Southern Maryland has to offer. Even more, the venue grounds serve as an ideal place for an elegant affair of any size.
As Liza and Ed’s day started, the second floor in the manor-house was filled. Liza and her girls on one side of the hallway, as the groom and his guys proceeded to get ready on the other. It’s always fun to watch families come together and Liza’s family was no exception. Her family was really amazing to be around. They laughed, cried and even prayed together as the excitement of the day literally filled the air in the house. When all the preps were over, Liza stood there looking beautiful in her Essence of Australia wedding dress from Genevieve’s Bridal Couture.
Across the hall Ed and his guys got dressed. With themed socks, each had such big personalities. Therefore, we couldn’t resist a few fun moments with the boys outside…and YES! The guys did drop Ed while they were throwing him into the air. LOL! Thankfully, no broken bones. And off to the church they went! Leaving Liza run of the house for some additional beautiful photos with her beautiful bridesmaids.
Ed and Liza had a Catholic mass at their family’s church, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lexington Park, Maryland. Their ceremony also included cultural traditions which we love. Liza and Ed honored their Filipino heritage with a veil and cord custom. A veil is draped over the couples followed signifying they are now one. Followed by a cord loosely placed around the necks of the couple creating a figure-eight. The symbolic meaning is a lifelong bond and fidelity between the couple. They also had the 13 Arras, coins brought to the altar. This custom signifies the groom promising welfare (prosperity) to his future wife and family.
After the conclusion of the ceremony, we had a beautiful short photo session right in the front yard of the church under the shade of some tall trees. The couple was ecstatic and looked lovelier than ever. Upon returning to Mary’s Hope, they showed-off a few twirls on the pier.
As the reception started everyone was in great spirits. The couple coordinated for every table of guests to stop for a group shot as they made their way to grab their dinner. We absolutely loved this idea and are going to recommend it to more couples. It’s a fantastic way to get a photo of everyone in attendance.
Despite Covid, everything was so grand and worry-free. No one could have asked for a better day. The excellent staff at Mary’s Hope on Church Cove is one that all venues should aspire to. The venue’s in-house wedding coordinator, Michelle, couldn’t have been more helpful and she made sure that everything ran so smoothly and on time. It was a pleasure for us to work a wedding there. So much so that Alie’s own sister is getting married there next year! We cannot wait to go back!
Liza and Ed’s evening ended with a beautiful sparkler send-off right in front of the house after a night of dancing and partying. The last thing we heard Liza say was that she never wanted this night to end. And we couldn’t have agreed more!
Congratulations Liza and Ed! We wish you a lifetime of happiness and joy.
