This Catholic Air Force Wedding in Southern Maryland was as beautiful as it was elegant. The event took place on the grounds of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Owings, Calvert County, Maryland, the entire day was magical. So I know we say this often, but seriously guys, our couples are the best! Hence, Katie and Brandon’s Air Force Wedding quickly jumped to our “favorites” list! Although, huge disclaimer. Each wedding is always better than the next! We absolutely love them all!!!!
Naturally, we started with the bride and her lovely bridesmaids spending our morning with Katie getting ready for her BIG day! The spacious bridal suite give us plenty of room to spread out and leisurely enjoy the preparation time. Huge shout out to Katie for having all her details neatly organized for us to photograph her invitation suite! Meanwhile, on the other side of the grounds, Brandon was also preparing himself. Certainly, in order to honor his career, Brandon wore his military attire. We loved to see the Air Force dress blues. Brandon truly looked so handsome in his! Did you know that Men who do choose to wear their uniforms are not allowed to pin boutonnieres?
The ceremony was a traditional Catholic mass. In our opinion, it is one of Southern Maryland’s most beautiful Catholic churches. We were blown away to witness a ceremony in such a tremendous space. Even more, it is the second wedding we’ve photographed at this church (see Beth and Jonathan’s wedding here) and we hope that there will be many more in our future!
Immediately following the ceremony, the Air Force traditions continued. Including, the traditional Air Force Wedding Sabre Arch! Lined up in pairs facing each other, the ushers or saber bearers, aka Brandon’s close friends, swung the single- edged swords. As a result, creating an arch for the new bride and groom to walk through. The arch symbolized a safe entry to their new lives together. We shifted gears for the bride and groom portraits in the adjacent courtyard after some group photos. Of course, we love seeing a freshly married couple smile and laugh. Looking like a Hollywood starlet, Katie stunned on her wedding day.
Moving on to the reception, we instantly noticed all of the thought and preparation that went into perfecting every little detail. Personalize your wedding to make it unique and special. Can we appreciate how beautiful the color palette is!? Including various hues of blue in the bridal party dresses, centerpieces, linens, and more. Accenting the Air Force theme, this was a blue dream! Similarly, airplanes were speckled throughout the hall. First, the paper planes hanging on one wall to create a beautiful mural (and selfie station). Secondly, the bottle-opener wedding favor. Thirdly, the table centerpieces with wooden plane table numbers, silver chargers, vintage blue glasses, and velvet linens. What a wonderful way to celebrate the bride and groom’s patriotism!
The sweet couple danced the night away. Ending with a memorable moment of the boys serenading the bride to “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling”. Obviously, reminiscent of a scene right out of the movie “Top Gun!” And lastly, the boys were ready to party! Once they took of their jackets, colorful party sleeves made an appearance!
We had a blast at Katie and Brandon’s wedding and we wish them a high-flying marriage. HUA!
