Having to postpone your wedding sucks! No matter the reason, it will never be easy. And when you need to postpone your wedding due to the global pandemic of Covid-19, it surely becomes more heart wrenching. Couples across the globe are faced with something that has never happened before. Not only that, many are finding that this time of uncertainty is too difficult to deal with. You may feel like you have no focus or motivation to adjust plans and can easily be consumed by negativity. It’s okay to be angry and heartbroken. We know how much work goes into planning your big day and we feel for you so much. When the time is right, you’ll be ready to tackle the task of postponing your wedding, and we can help. We compiled a list of the first 5 Steps to Take if You Have to Postpone Your Wedding due to Covid-19.

1) Reach out to your Venue

The sudden health crisis has put a damper on all parades. With the entire Spring and Summer (and possibly Fall) wedding seasons coming to a stop, you’ll want to act super fast! First thing is first, contact your venue ASAP. People are swapping dates quickly and you want to work as fast as possible to secure a new date that works for you. You may need to take whatever date the venue has available (could be a Friday or Sunday).

2) Contact Your Vendors

Start making calls to all your vendors. Check to see how many can reschedule your new date. You’ll want to ask about rebooking and their availability. If one of your vendors is not available for your new date, ask for recommendations. Most vendors will be prepared with various options to choose from. Remember to be kind and understanding. They are in this with you and they are also trying their best in handling this situation. Do not straight out cancel on your vendors. They really depend on your booking if they are a small business. Please continue to support local businesses and do your best to pick a new date where all vendors can fulfill.

3) Call Your Guests

More than likely your guests might be predicting that the wedding is going to be postponed. However, you still have the duty to notify them. Reach out to every guest via call or email, until they respond. Do not make the assumption that they have received notice of your new date. Make sure everyone invited knows about the new date! If you are comfortable accepting support, receive it with an open heart. If you prefer that people do not send you texts or emails, ask that they respect your situation.

4) Ask for Help

The best way to manage this stressful time is to ask for help. Planning a wedding alone is a lot of work. Having to postpone one is even more! Ask your partner, family, and friends for help. They love you and they are ready to support you. Help can be as simple as assigning tasks, making phone calls, or even just having people around to provide emotional support. Lastly, if you have a planner, they’ll be a huge aid in dealing with this situation. Don’t hesitate to rely on his/her expertise

5) Remain Positive

Be open to your original plans changing. The calmer you are with the process, the better outcome; the better you will feel. You might have to pick a new date, a different day of the week, or possibly even another location. Be kind to yourself and take breaks when needed. It can be easy to fall into depression and feel anger, which is justified because of your situation. Focus on the positive and be thankful. You can still have the wedding of your dream!

Bonus Step:

Don’t forget to check on your travel plans, if you had already scheduled your honeymoon! Ask your travel agent, airline company, and hotel chain about their rescheduling options.
