Sometimes the quaintness of a smaller wedding can be the most heartwarming. This was certainly the case for Carah & Joe’s Old Town Alexandria Wedding at Columbia Firehouse

The couple’s wedding celebration spread over the course of two separate days. First, a family-only intimate ceremony. Second, a private cocktail reception at a local bar. Because of this, their wedding was charming and memorable. And we absolutely loved it!

On wedding day we met Carah while she was getting ready. We typically start with the details and we instantly fell in love with her earrings. But once Carah put them on, Oh My Goodness, she looked absolutely stunning! Carah also wore a heirloom cameo gold bracelet. Most importantly, this bracelet has been passed down for 4 generations! It is these special pieces that mean so much to family. And boy, dowe love to photograph them. As soon as she was ready, we staged a reveal with her dad. Of course, tears were rolling!

Next, we met the groom outside for the ‘first look.’ This took place in a vey cute garden across the street. We can all agree that the joy that radiates from Joe’s face is infectious. So much love as he saw his bride! Carah and Joe were so sweet and full of smiles. Then their dog also made an appearance! The moments truly couldn’t be sweeter. We were unbelievably lucky to get such rich autumn colors so late in the year.

After bride and groom portrait and family photos outdoors, we headed to their wedding ceremony at Columbia Station in Old Town Alexandria. The restaurant was a perfect fit for this laid back couple and their family and friends. The venue is an old firehouse converted into an upscale bar and restaurant. The  amenities include a private upstairs dining area and bar, a ceremony/cocktail space, and a full working restaurant and bar on the ground floor. Trust us, the place is cozy and the drinks are great! We even stayed after the wedding to relax at the bar with a few beers and some great bar atmosphere.

The Reception

We rejoined the couple the very next day, at one of Washington DC’s trendiest spaces, Baby Wale. Now, it was time for the reception. Baby Whale is an “industrial-style pub with a lengthy bar & a menu built on sandwiches…” It is located right on 9th street in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Washington DC. The venue features a bar, a loft, and plenty of space to roam about. Inviting their friends to Baby Wale was perfect for this relaxed couple. Joe and Carah had their formal first dance as the rest of the night was casual and free-flowing. It’s so nice and we are so blessed to have versatil clients that think outside the box. Congratulations Carah and Joe!
